প্রাচীন বাঙ্গলা সাহিত্যে মুসলমানের অবদান وخ* তত্ত্বগুলি আলোচনা করিতে পারে, তাহা বিস্ময়কর।”+ স্বপ্রসিদ্ধ আভিধানিক হটন সাহেব এদেশের জঙ্গলে জঙ্গলে অনাদৃত ভগ্ন মসজিদ ও মন্দিরাদি দেখিয়া লিখিয়াছেন—“ইহাদের মত যদি একটিও ইউরোপে পাওয়া যায়, তবে তাহ পাশ্চাত্য-জগতে এক একটি তীর্থের স্বষ্টি করে, কত পৰ্য্যটক দূর-দূরান্তর হইতে তাহ দেখিতে আসে এবং তৎসম্বন্ধে কতই না স্ববৃহৎ গ্রন্থ বিরচিত হয় । S” আমরা হিন্দু মুসলমান বাঙ্গালার এই জনসাধারণের বংশধর । কয়েকটি বংশ দূরাগত বলিয়া আভিজাত্যের গৰ্ব্ব করিয়া থাকেন, কিন্তু তাহারা ত বহুকাল এদেশে থাকিয়া বাঙ্গালী হইয়া গিয়াছেন। বাঙ্গালার ফলের বাগানে এলফান্সে, বোম্বাই প্রভৃতি নানাপ্রকারের আমের গাছ আছে ; কিন্তু তাহারা এখন বোম্বাই কি অন্ত কোন দেশের নহে। বাঙ্গালার জল-মাটিতে জন্মিয় তাহারা বাঙ্গালার ফলই হইয়া গিয়াছে। বিলাতী কুমড়ার গায়ে এখন আর বিলাতের গন্ধ নাই । বাঙ্গলা ভাষার প্রতি বীতশ্রদ্ধ হওয়া বাঙ্গালীর পক্ষে শোভন নহে । একশত বৎসর পূৰ্ব্বে এই ভাষা সম্বন্ধে একাদশটি ভারতীয় প্রাদেশিক
