and gladden the heart. The character of Promod her selfish brother, has hardly, been less cleverly drawn. It is not difficult to find original of such character in this cold, calculating world. Nirafa, the other femal charactor, thrives well up to a certain point, and then dwindles into insignificance in the greater interest which one feels for Kanak.

 The pages that described the conflict of feelings in Kanak's mind, obedience to her brother and guardian on the one side and the dictates of an all-absorbing love on the other, constitute an interesting reading, and are sure to give the book in which they occur ü respectable place in Bengali fiction.

 It is a sweet short story simply told. It is ratiiving to see that the talented authoress does not allow her powers to remain idle.
