অনারেবল বাবু ভূপেন্দ্র নাথ বসু সভায় উপস্থিত হইতে পারেন নাই বলিয়া দুঃখ প্রকাশ করিয়া একখানি পত্র লিখিয়াছিলেন, বৃষ্টির প্রাবল্যে ও জনতার বাহুল্যে ঐ পত্র কিঞ্চিৎ বিলম্বে মঞ্চোপরি উপস্থাপিত হইয়াছিল। সুতরাং তাহা এই সময়ে পঠিত হইল। পত্রখানি এই—
“My dear Kabyabisarad, I am truly sorry that a too recent bereavement renders it impossible for me to attend to-day's meeting held in honour of the martyrs in the Swadeshi cause. I am in hearty sympathy with the object of the meeting. It is the height of supercilious sanctimoniousness to treat these gentlemen as convicted criminals: neither history nor ethics would justify such an attitude of mind towards men who have dared the terrors of the law for the sake of their convictions.
