সিরাজদ্দৌলা।

সর্ব প্রথম পত্র লিখেন,—তাহাতে অন্ধকুপ-হত্যার উল্লেখ নাই"।^[১]! কর্ণেল ক্লাইবের প্রথম পত্রে এবং পলাশির যুদ্ধের অব্যবহিত পূর্ব্বের লিখিত তর্জ্জনগর্জ্জনপূর্ণ শেষ পত্রেও অন্ধকূপ-হত্যার নাম গন্ধ দেখিতে পাওয়া যায় না!^[২] সিরাজদ্দৌলাকে সিংহাসনচ্যুত করা হইল কেন, তদ্বিষয়ে ক্লাইব কোর্ট অব ডিরেক্টরকে যে পত্র লিখিয়াছিলেন, তাহাতেও অন্ধকূপ হত্যার উল্লেখ নাই!^[৩] স্বয়ং হলওয়েল ১৭৬০ খৃষ্টাব্দের ৪ঠা আগষ্টের বৈঠকে সিলেক্ট কমিটির সম্মুখে ১৭৫৭ খৃষ্টাব্দের রাজ-

↑ Major Kilpatrick on the 15th instant (August 1756) wrote a complimentary letter to the Nowab Surajed Dowla complaining a little of the hard usage of the English Honorable Company, assuring him of his good intentions notwithstanding what had happened.—Long's Selection.
↑ ক্লাইবের প্রথম পত্রখানি এইরূপ:—The Admiral Watson, Commander of the King's invincible ships, and himself, a soldier whose conquests in Decan might have reached his ears, were come to revenge the injuries he had done the English Company; and it would better become him to show his love of justice, by making them ample satisfaction for all their losses, than expose his country to be the seat of war.—Scrafton.
ক্লাইবের শেষ পত্রখানি এইরূপ:—That from his great reputation for justice, and faithful observance of his word, he had been induced to make peace with him, and to pass over the loss of many crores of Rupees sustained by the English in the capture of Calcutta, and to rest content with whatever he, in his justice and generosity, should restore to them, &c. &c—Scrafton.
