It may be that there will be many differences of pinioll and couscientious objections to the various statements lat he has made on various subjects of a controversial nature. f there are any errors they will be refuted by competent scholars nd in that case also we shall begrateful to him for giviug us the ecosion of many learned criticisms which will increase our knowedge on many obscure points of Indian History and Culture. My attention, howexer, is not directed to pickiug holes in this great work as I am too much overcome by the magnitude of it. From he mythical period of the conqust of Ceylone to fairly moderp imes he has gone forth with the easy flow of a river and one can ind in it all elements of the History of Bengal and its culture 1) all possible departments, floating together towards one great 2nd, the conciousness of the greatness of Bengal. The style is smooth, easy and charming and all those who leave themselves unresistingly to its current of thought will be rewarded by a Patriotic consciousncss of our great country. The consciousness of the great achievements of a country is bound to have stimulating effect particularly in these days of scepticism. The work "criorate within it not only many stern facts of history but 's many tales, legends and traditions which lend a charm of 'ince to this great work. They would serve to illustrate to us the height that we achieved in pictorial art in mediaeval times.
