8 INTRODUCTION. I cannot conclude this introduction without paying a tribute to the memory of the late Prof. A. Stenzler, to whose Latin translation of Raghuvamsham and Kumarasambhavam the late Dr. K. M. Banerjea owes whatever is excellent in his edition of the two epics, and to that of the late Prof. Pischel, himself one of the most distinguished pupils of Prof. Stenzler, whose revised edition of the Bengali recension of Sakuntala, which is now being brought out by Prof. Lanman in America, will settle once for all the priority of the Bengali recension of the text of that drama. It may also interest the reader to know that Dr. H. Beckh, a learned scholar of Tibetan and Sanskrit has lately brought out an edition of the Tibetan version of the Meghaduta, a work which will prove of great use to learners of classical Tibetan. With this prefatory note I beg leave to introduce to the public Pandit Rajendra Nath Widyabhushan's original appreciation of Kalidasa which I myself have read with much interest and enjoyment.
