McARThun, Lt.-Col, R B , o Offy Secretary to the Government of Bengal No 88, dated Galcutta, the 81st March 1894 Endorsed—By the Government of India, Home Department Copy forwarded to the Governmeut of Bengal for information Dated India Office, London, the 1st March 1894 From-Her Majesty's Secretary of State for India, To–His Excellency the Right Hon’ble the Governor-General of India in Council I Forward, for the information of Your Excellency’s Government, copy of Quarantine Notice issued in Brazil respecting ships from India, Burma, and other countries TRANSLATION MINISTRY of Justice AND INTERNAL AFFAIRs Rio De Janeiro, January 20th, 1894 IN view of what this Inspectorate proposed in a despatch dated December 18th last and considering that India, Burma and Indo-China and the Sonda Isles and Mesopotamıa are almost permanent foe* of gholera morbus, the Govermment has resolved— 1st—That vessels proceeding from the abovementioned oountries, and all those which transport Asiatic immigrants, must first make for the lazaretto of Ilha Grande, in order to undergo there the necessary sanitary treatment 2nd—That the entry into the ports of Brazil will be prohibited to immigrants arriving from those countries if a recrudescence of the said epidemic is verified among them 3rd–That the Brazillian Consular Authorities in the countries referred to must declare explicitly on the Bills of Health the sanitary state of the localities whence the ship sails from, communicating by telegram if on the occasion an epidemic exists
