The 1st October 1878.—It is notified for general information that the next half-yearly departmental examination of Assistants and Deputy Magistrates in the Regulation and NonRegulation Districts, and of officers in the Police and Opium Departments, will begin on Monday, the 12th November 1877. Secy, to the Govt. of Bengal. ബ=ബം NOTIFICATION. , The 1st October 1877—Under the provisions of Section 1, Act IV (B.C.) of 1873, the Lieutenant-Governor is pleased to direct that from 1st November 1877, all births and deaths occurring within the limits of the South Suburban Town, in the district of the 24-Pergunnahs, shall be registered. 鬱 2. For the purposes of this Act, the boundaries of the said South Suburban Town shall be the same as those specified in the notification dated the 11th of February 1876, published in the Calcutta Gazette of the 1st March 1876 for the purposes of Act VI (B.C.) of 1868. 8. The 1st October 1877.-In modification of the rules referred to in the notification of the 15th July 1876, published on page 894 of the Calcutta Gazette of the 19th July 1876, the fieutenant-Governor is pleased to direct that the following revised Port Rule be substituted for Rule 15 of the rules published on page 1034 of the Calcutta Gazette of the 12th June 1867, and for Rule 36 of the rules for the guidance of Running Pilots published on page 567 of the Calcutta Gazette of the 21st February 1872:— Rule. All vessels anchored in the stream in the channels of the river Hooghly leading to the Port of Calcutta shall, betwe unset and sunrise, have.a good light hoisted, where it can best be seen, at a height not to exceed twenty feet above the hull of the vessel; and the lantern shown must be so constructed as to display a clear, uniform, and unbroken light, visible all round the horizon, at a distance of at least one mile. Vessels under weigh at night shall show the lights prescribed by the Admiralty Regulations. Also that the following rule be substituted for Rule 23 of the rules published on page 35l of the Calcutta Gazette of the 30th October 1872 : 船 RULE. All vessels anchored in the stream within the Port of Calcutta shall, between sunset and sunrise, have a good light hoisted, where it can best be seen, at a height not to exceed twenty feet above the hull of the vessel; and the lantern shown must be so coustructed as to display a clear, uniform, and unbroken light, visible all round the horizon, at a distance of at least one mile.
