| I. Oak Hill Park, Frognal Hampstead Sept 14. 12 My dear Sir. Let me thank you for your kindness in sending over the three books containing your drawings. As I cxpccted from the reproductions I saw in an article on your brother, they are admirable. I know of few drawings which show at the same time so much sensitiveness of line and sincerity in characterisation, and there is a beauty and nobility in the expression you give to your sitters which it would be difficult to match. I do not know which I prefer the drawings of the men or of the women. Your drawings of ladies remind me of the early drawings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the admirable drawings by the great French artist, Puvis de Chavanes. Indeed the books have been— and still are a source of great delight to me, and all to whom I have shown them have had similar seelings regarding them. One or two of your sisters it has been my privilege to meet— I need not speak of your brother Rabindranath, so dear to all of us here; there is a beautiful drawing of his son and one of Kawagachi, whom I saw at Benares. I hope, with your permission. to get one or two of your drawings reproduced here. If ever I return to India— a hope which is very near my heart— the privilege of your 88
