“In many ways he is an idealist and a visionary. In other respects he is an astute politician. At times he is obstinate as a fanatic, on other occasions he is liable to surrender like a child. The instinct, or the judgment so necessary for politıcal bargaining is lackıng in him. . . . Born in another country he might have been a complete misfit. . . His doctrine of non-violence would have led him to the cross or to the mental hospital.”
[এই উক্তি তাঁহার যে গ্রন্থে আছে তাহার প্রকাশ-কাল ১৯৩৪ সাল; গান্ধী-চরিত্রের বিকাশ বা পূর্ণতার পরিচয় তখনও বাকি ছিল, তখনও এিপুরীর বিলম্ব আছে। শেষের দিকে ঐ যে’ ‘mental hospital’-এর উল্লেখ আছে, এক্ষণে উহার আর প্রয়োজন নাই, গান্ধীজী সারাদেশটাকেই সেইরূপ হাসপাতালে পরিণত করিয়া তন্মধ্যে অতিশয় স্বচ্ছন্দে বিচরণ ও বাস করিতেছেন।]
