[ 12 ) begelling creation, manifesled Himself as the sun–that sun which as fire, light or energy interpeneraled with the quality of sattwa is the primal cause of all the visible things and phenomena of the universe. Air had always dweli, latent and unfelt, by the side of fire or force : and now, with the manifestalion of the sun, the power of air also made itself suddenly feli. And as the sun, with the aid of air, began to whirl round with remendous velocity, planels like the Barth (as well as the electrons in their înfinile multitude) came io be thrown off from the sun. And, in the course of time, the nebula was melted into liquid under the enormous heat ol the sun. From this it will appear hot fire, air and space— these are the throe primal elements. Borih and water are only leier emanations from these two. Hence oarth and water—though regarded ölS eleinenis—ore included undor fire and w.ir, ihey are in no way to be regarded as beyond the ihree qualities of sattwa, rajas and tamas. Whalsoever things exist upon the earth—they are all made out of the five elements and they have all emanated from the three qualities. In the Ayurveda it is said that every living thing is composed of three humours—bile, choler and phlegm. Now these humours are only the crude wretamorphoses of the three essential qualities—
