মধুসূদন ‘তিলোত্তমাসম্ভবে’র ইংরেজী অনুবাদও আরম্ভ করিয়াছিলেন। ধবল-গিরির বর্ণনাটুকু অনূদিত হইয়াছিল। এই পাণ্ডুলিপির মালিক মহারাজা যতীন্দ্রমোহন ঠাকুরের সৌজন্যে ইহা শম্ভুচন্দ্র মুখোপাধ্যায়-সম্পাদিত Mookerjee's Magazine-এ ১৮৭৪ খ্রীষ্টাব্দের আগস্ট মাসের সংখ্যায় (পৃ. ৩৮৫-৮৭) মুদ্রিত হয়। ‘জীবন-চরিত’, পৃ. ২৮৩-৮৫ ও ‘মধুস্মৃতি’, পৃ. ১৫০-৫২ দ্রষ্টব্য।
‘তিলোত্তমাসম্ভব কাব্য’ ও অমিত্রাক্ষর ছন্দ সম্বন্ধে মধুসূদন ও তাঁহার বন্ধুগণের চিঠিপত্রে অনেক সংবাদ আছে। আমরা সেগুলি ‘জীবন-চরিত’ (৪র্থ সং.) হইতে সংগ্রহ করিয়া নিয়ে একত্র সন্নিবিষ্ট করিলাম। এই পত্রাংশগুলি হইতে এই নূতন ছন্দ ও নূতন কাব্য সম্বন্ধে মধুসূদনের নিজের ধারণা ও সে কালের বিশ্বজ্জনসমাজে ইহা যে আলোড়নের সৃষ্টি করিয়াছিল, তাহার পরিচয় পাওয়া যাইবে।

Tilottama will be published, soon, in the shape of a volume. Perhaps you don’t know that it is in Four Books. Jatindro Mohan Tagore, at whose expense the work is being printed (for I am as poor as a good poet ought to be!), seems to think that the last Book is the best. You will soon, however, have an opportunity of judging for yourself. The book will come out soon, but the question is how many will read it. It is a pity you are not in Calcutta. If you were, I should have tossed you to give lectures on the work. That would no doubt have gained it some readers. I am afraid you think my style hard, but, believe me, I never study to be grandiloquent like the majority of the “barren rascals” that write books in these days of literary excitement. The words come unsought, floating in the stream of (I suppose I must call it) Inspiration! Good Blank Verse should be sonorous and the best writer of Blank Verse in English is the toughest of poets—I mean old John Milton! And Virgil and Homer are anything but easy. But let that pass. You no doubt exonse many things in a fellow's First poem. I began the poem in a joke, and I see I have actually done something that ought to give our national Poetry a good lift, at any rate, that will teach the future poets of Bengal to write in a strain very different from that of the man of Krishnagar-the father of
