আচরণ করে’ ধর্ম্মচ্যুত না হয় ঈশ্বর তাঁদের ভুলবেন না, তাঁদের ধ্বংস করবেন না এবং তাদের পূর্ব্বপুরুষের সঙ্গে শপথ করে যে অঙ্গীকার (covenant) বদ্ধ হয়েছেন সে অঙ্গীকার ভূলবেন না।[১] ইহুদীদের ডেভিড ঈশ্বরের বিশেষ প্রিয় পাত্র (a man after his own heart) ছিলেন। কিন্তু সেই ডেভিডের কীর্ত্তি যা বাইবলে বর্ণিত আছে তা নিতান্ত অসন্তোষ জনক।[২]
