তে আসিয়াস্থিত তাঁহারদের স্বজাতীয়েরদিগকে মুক্তকরণার্থে গ্রীকীয়েরা স্পার্টারদের অধীন হইয়া অবিরত পারস রাজার প্রতি যুদ্ধ করিতে লাগিলেন। পরে যখন স্পার্টার সেনাপতির প্রগল্ভতা ও বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা দেখিয়া সহকারি যােদ্ধারা তাঁহার প্রতি বিরক্ত হইল তখন আথেন্স নগরের অধীন হইয়া গ্রীকীয়েরা যুদ্ধ করিতে লাগিলেন। পেলােপােনিসসের সরহদ্দের বহিস্থিত দেশ এবং উপদ্বীপস্থেরদের মধ্যে চিরকালের নিমিত্ত এক শলার নির্ব্বন্ধ হয় এবং আথেন্স নগরের অধীনে তাহারদের সাধারণ শত্রু পারসীয়েরদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধকরনার্থ প্রত্যেক দেশ নির্দিষ্ট সংখ্যক জাহাজ যােগাইয়া দিতে স্বীকৃত হইলেন। তৎপশ্চাৎ জাহাজের পরিবর্ত্তে কতক টাকা দিতে স্বীকার করিলেন ঐ টাকা সংগ্রহপূর্ব্বক দিলস স্থানে সাধারণ ভাণ্ডারে ন্যস্ত হইত।
