It is true that if the whole vocabulary of abuse is expended on trifling incidents, the influence of the press in important matters will be correspondingly negligible. It is perhaps also the path of wisdom to let the discontented “work off steam.” These arguments, however, can be pushed too far, and in Bengal many thoughtful observers have been forced to the conclusion that they are an inadequate answer to the untramelled liberty of abuse that now prevails. The evil results of a campaign of persistent vilification on an ill-balanced community have already manifested themselves in ugly and ominous forms, and the reputation and prestige of the official classes and of Government have been seriously undermined by the unending repetition of falsehood. It is idle to hope that ultimately truth will prevail throngh its own inherent strength. Any interference with the press will rouse a storm of mnited protest. মিথ্যা কথার প্রচার ও গালাগালি বদ্ধ করিবার একটি উপায় আছে যাহা অবলম্বন করিলে, সুফল আশানুরূপ ন হইলেও, কুফল কিছুই হইবে না। যাহার কেবলমাত্র সত্য সংবাদ ও স্তায়সঙ্গত সমালোচন। নিভীকভাবে প্রকাশ করিতে ইচ্ছুক, তাহারা যদি এক-এক কিম্বা দলৰদ্ধ হইয় এই উদ্দেশ্বে তাহাদের অর্থবল, মানসিক শক্তি, জ্ঞান ও লিথিবীর ক্ষমতা প্রয়োগ করেন, তাহা হইলে কিছু সুফল ফলিতে পারে। ইহা জামরা বাংলা দেশের লোকদিগকে বলিতেছি, গবন্মেণ্টকে নহে। গবষ্মেণ্ট যাহা কিছু করেন সবই মন্দ, মনে করি না । গবন্মেন্টের অস্তায় সমালোচনা ও সরকারী কৰ্ম্মচারীদের প্রতি অন্তার গালাগালি যে কখনও হয় না, তাহাও নহে। কিন্তু বাহারা ক্ষমতাশালী এবং প্রভূ, তাহারা কতকটা সমালোচনা-অসহিষ্ণু হইয়া থাকে। ভাষ্য কথাকেও তাহারা অনেক সময় গালাগালি বলিয়া ভ্রম कtग्न । छांब्रजकड जयांzणां5न ७ अड्डांच्च नयाँरणांफ़नांब्र মধ্যবৰ্ত্তী সীমারেখা নির্দেশ করা সমালোচিত ব্যক্তির কাজ नग्न । ठ-शंछ, जब्रकांब्र शंक हहैष्ठ यांशं दण इड, ठांश७ नव नथब्र गच् नप्र ; जलांनङ्गङ ७ जांनझ्छ সত্যের অপলাপ সরকারপক্ষ হইতেও হইয়া থাকে। সরকারপক্ষের পূর্ণ সমালোচল বর্তমান আইন অনুসারে যতটা বাধা পাইয়া থাকে, তাছা অপেক্ষা অধিক বাধা সৃষ্টি করিবার জামরা বিরোধী। আমরা বে-সরকারী লোকেब्रां७ बिषांबांगॆी निन्दूक्रमब्र जांजमनं नए कब्रि, किरु ऐशब्र cथंठिकांtब्रब्र अछ कt#ांब्रठग्न थाँदैन फ्रारे न ।
