AN EARNEST APPEAL ( )N }} E i ! To give practical effect to it in one subject there is now an excellent opportunity of which, it is hoped, full advantage will be taken. it is proposed to form a fund to carry out the suggestion of Sir George Birdwood und Mr. Greenwood, the Principal of Sir J. J. School of Art, to send to Europe Mr. G. K. MHATRE, whose genius in art has already produced “the most beautiful statue that was ever modelled in India,” to enable him to learn the sculptor's art. He has been pronounced to be a genius by men most competent to judge in such matters. In the words of Mr. Greenwood, it must be “the pride and pleasure (of every Indian) to encourage so gifted a member of his own race.” More than that, it is a duty which we owe to our motherland, because Mr. Mhatre's success would go far to remove the erroneous impression that Indians are wanting in originally and taste. We, therefore, earnestly appeal to all Indians and their sympathisers to subscribe liberally to the fund. Mr. Mhatre will have to spend three years in Europe and at a rough estimate the expenses are expected to about Rs. 12,000. JANARDAN GOPAL MANTRI, J. P., Solicitor, IIigh Courf. DAJI ABAJI KHARE, B.
