分为色 প্রসিদ্ধ, কিন্তু পরীক্ষায় তাহ ব্যর্থ ষ্টয়া গিয়াছে। সিংহল দ্বীপে দুই শত বৎসর অবধি একটি ঔষধ অব্যৰ্থ বলিয়া খ্যাতিলাভ করিয়া আসিতেছে। কিন্তু ডাক্তার রিচার্ড ও ডাক্তার ফেরার সাহেব উভয়ে পুনঃ পুনঃ পরীক্ষা করিয়া দেখিয়াছেন যে,এদেশীয় সর্পবিষে ঐ ঔষধ কোন উপকার করিতে পারে না। ঝানসির কমিসনর এডওয়ার্ডস্ সাহেব পরীক্ষার্গ পুরিয়া •lio (Pooreya Paru) Rtow of 5xtগ্রুলের এক বনাগছি ফেরার সাহেবের নিকট পাঠাষ্টয়া লিখিয়াছিলেন যে, সপবিযে ইহার গুণ অতি আশ্চর্য্য, তিনি তাহা স্বয়ং প্রত্যক্ষ করিয়াছেন । কিন্তু পরীক্ষায় কোন গুণই প্রকাশ হইল না। হিগিন্স নামে জনৈক সাহেব লেখেনঃ যে, যে জাতির বিষ সেই জাতির পিত্ত তাছার অব্যর্থ ঔষধ কিন্তু পরীক্ষায় তাহীও সপ্রমাণিত হইল না । এইরূপে দেশী বিদেশী কোন ঔষধই পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ বঙ্গদর্শন। ( ভাদ্র। হইতে পারে নাই। শেষ এই প্রতিপন্ন হইল যে সর্পবিষের ঔষধ নাই । কিন্তু সপবিষের ঔষধ নাই শুনিয়া কে নিশ্চেষ্ট বা নিশ্চিন্ত হষ্টয়া থাকিতে পারে ? ঔষধ প্রকৃত হউক অপ্রকৃত হউক প্রচলিত থাকিবে ; যে কারণে একাল, পৰ্য্যন্ত ঔষধ প্রচলিত অাছে সেই কারণেই প্রচলিত থাকিবে। ফেরার সাহেবের পরীক্ষা সম্বন্ধে আমরা এই মাত্র দেখিয়াছি যে, তিনি কেবল কুকুট, কুকুর, বিড়াল, ছাগ প্রভৃতির দেহে ঔষধ পরীক্ষা করিয়াছিলেন, মনুষ্যদেহে করেন নাই । অতএব মনুষ্যশরীরে ঐ সকল ঔষধ কি রূপ ক্রিয়া করিত তাহ ফেরার সাহেব জানিতে পারেন নাই । তিনি এই মাত্র অনুভব করিয়াছিলেন যে যদি সৰ্পদষ্ট ছাগাদি ঐ সকল ঔষধে রক্ষা পাইল না তবে মনুষ্য ও রক্ষা পাইতে পারে না । cझब्राब्र नाएँझ्द ऋब्र१ नन्नैौक्र कशेिब्र দেখিয়াছেন যে, কুকুর প্রভৃতি জস্তুগণ f Mr. S. B. Higgins writing to the European Mail in 1870 says “all animal poisons have their specific antidotes in the gall of the animal or reptile in which these poisons exist. The bite of the Cobra or of any other poisonous snake or the reptilo can be cured by administering a few drops of a preparatioin of the gall of the Cobra, which should be ; as follows;–Pure spirit of wine of 95 per cent alcohal or the best high wines that can be procured "200 drops; of the pure gall 20 drops; in a clean two ounce phial, corked with a new cork; give the phial 150 or 200 shakes, so that the gall may be thoroughly mixed with the spirits and the preparation is ready for use. In case of bite put 5 drops (no more) of the preparation into half a tumblersul of pure water--pour the water from one tumbler into another backward and forwards several times that the preparation may be thoroughly mixed with the water and administer a large tablespoonfull of the mixture every three or five minutes until the whole lias been given.”
