The Nabob and some Merchants here (Dacca) and in Balasore and Piple have about 20 saile of ships of considerable burthen, that annually trade to sea, some to Ceylone, some to Tanassarree. Those fetch elephants, and the rest, 6 or 7 yearly, goe to the 12ooo Islands called Maldiva to fetch coweries and 'cayre, and most commordy doc maka very profitable voyage. * * * Cossumbazar –A very famous and pleasant town, famous in many respects, first and chiefely for its great commerce and plenty of very rich Merchants, the onley market-place in this kingdoine for all commodities made and vended therein, whence it received this name, Cossum signifienge the husband or chiese, and Bazar a market."
