wV বঙ্গের বাহিরে বাঙ্গালী । করিয়া এখানে ব্রাহ্মের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি পাইতে থাকে। কিন্তু তঁহাদের প্রায় সকলেই বাঙ্গালী।।*।। বলা বাহুল্য। দক্ষিণাবাবু ব্ৰাহ্ম ছিলেন এবং “ব্রাহ্মণের সহিত ক্ষত্ৰিয় কন্যার বিবাহ ও বিধবা বিবাহ সম্পূর্ণরূপে হিন্দুশাস্ত্রানুমোদিত জ্ঞান করিতেন ।” সিপাহীবিদ্রোহ দমনের পর লক্ষ্মেীয়ে ব্রিটিশরাজ্য সুদৃঢ় হইলে বড়লাট লর্ড ক্যানিং বাহাদুরের অযোধ্যায় শাসন-নীতি ( Oudh, policy) সম্বন্ধে দক্ষিণাবাবু ব্রিটিশ ইণ্ডিয়ান এসোসিয়েশনের সদস্য স্বরূপ ১৮৫৯ অব্দে ইংরেজের অনুকূল সারগর্ভ বক্তৃতা করিয়াছিলেন এবং তৎপূর্বে মিউটিনির সময় লণ্ডনের প্রসিদ্ধ টাইমস পত্রে বিশেষ দক্ষতা সহকারে গবর্ণমেণ্টের পক্ষে দুই একটা প্ৰবন্ধ লিখিয়াছিলেন। রেভারেণ্ড ডাক্তার ডাফ এই সময় বড়লাট ক্যানিং বাহাদুরের নিকট দক্ষিণাবাবুর সুখ্যাতিও করিয়াছিলেন। এই সকল কারণে দক্ষিণাবাবু মহামতি ক্যানিং বাহাদুরের সুনজরে পতিত হন এবং অযোধ্যার তালুকদারী নূতন নিয়মে ও নব সৰ্ত্তে বন্দোবস্ত করিবার কালে দক্ষিণাবাবু রাজা উপাধিতে ভূষিত হন এবং রায়বেরেলীর অন্তর্গত শঙ্করপুরের তালুক প্রাপ্ত হন। তালুকদারী ও রাজা উপাধিন্দানের জন্য সার চালর্স উইংফীল্ড মহোদয় এবং মাননীয় ডেভিস্ সাহেবও অল্প যত্ন করেন। নাই । ইহারা উভয়েই রাজা দক্ষিণারঞ্জনের অন্তরঙ্গ বন্ধু ছিলেন। “The Brahmos numbered 28 persons in 1901 out of the total of 37 for the whole Provinces.
