M98 R বঙ্গের বাহিরে বাঙ্গালী । সম্মানিত ছিলেন তাহ নিম্ন উদ্ধার * হইতে বেশ জানা যাইবে। উদ্ধারে উল্লিখিত ঘটনা ১১৮৪-৮৮ অব্দের মধ্যে ঘটিয়া ছিল বলিয়া উক্ত হইয়াছে। উত্তর পশ্চিমের ছোটলাট সারা অকল্যাণ্ড কলভিন বাহাদুর র্তাহাকে যথেষ্ট সমাদর করিতেন ও বন্ধুভাবে পত্ৰাদি লিখিতেন। ক্যানিং কলেজ প্ৰতিষ্ঠিত হইলে ইহাতে সংস্কৃত ও আইন অধ্যাপকের প্রয়োজন হয়। সেই সুত্রে রাজা দক্ষিণারঞ্জন তাহার বন্ধু স্বৰ্গীয় রাজকুমার সর্বাধিকারী মহাশয়কে ঐ পদে আহবান করেন। সিপাহী বিদ্রোহের দুর্দিন সবেমাত্ৰ কাটিয়াছে-স্বনামখ্যাত ঐতিহাসিক “সেটন কার” তখন কলিকাতা হাইকোর্টের জজ। স্বৰ্গীয় রাজকুমার সর্বাধিকারী মহাশয় তখন সাহিত্যক্ষেত্রে একজন যশস্বী লেখক । ইংরেজী ভাষা ও সাহিত্যে অসাধারণ অধিকারী, সংস্কৃত কলেজের প্রতিভাবান ছাত্র, এবং “ইংলণ্ডের শাসন প্ৰণালী” নামক গ্রন্থের লেখক বলিয়া তখন তাহার বিলক্ষণ খ্যাতি। ঐ গ্রন্থের প্ৰথম ভাগ তখন এণ্টান্স ক্লাসের, দ্বিতীয় ভাগ এফ, এ ক্লাসের এবং তৃতীয় ভাগ বি, এ ক্লাসের নিৰ্দ্ধিারিত পাঠ্য ছিল। বিগত শতাব্দীর সেই মধ্যযুগে সৰ্ব্বাধীকারী মহাশয় লক্ষ্মেীপ্রবাসী হন। বিদ্রোহ দমনের পর অযোধ্যা " " At the urgent and repeated request of the Viceroy ( Earl of Dufferin) Dr. Shambhu Chander one day went to the Government House. He was received by the Viceroy with the utmost courtesy and the Viceroy took his seat by the side of the distinguished journalist on a small sofa, so that the overflowing garment of the visitor fell on the body of the Viceroy. Lord Dufferin then showed him choicest articles collected by him during his tonr in Upper Burma, and began to talk with him on various subjects. In the midst of his conversation, Sir Stuart Bailey, the then Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, came to see the Viceroy for advice in an urgent political matter. The Viceroy therefore most politely requested Dr. Shambhu. Chander Mukherji to excuse him for 5 or 10 minutes to have a talk with the Lieut. Governor. The Doctor with his usual politeness begged of the Viceroy to take leave of him, assuring his Lordship at the same time, that he would call on him on another occasion. But the Viceroy insisted on his remaining and having kept him engaged in reading some valuable books or newspaper, saw Sir Stuart Bailey in another room, gave necessary orders in the matter and came back to the journalist in all haste to resume conversation with hin.
