কাশী । ०१ দুইশত ছাত্র পাঠ করিতে থাকে। তিনি শিক্ষক ও ছাত্ৰগণের বাস ও আহারাদি করিবার উপযুক্ত বন্দোবস্ত করেন এবং বিদ্যালয়ের ব্যয় নির্বাহাৰ্থ স্থায়ী মাসিক । বৃত্তি নিৰ্দ্ধারণ করেন। গ্রেটব্রিটনে লর্ড বেকন এবং বঙ্গে রাজা রামমােহন ब्रांत्मद्र মত কাশীতে রাজা জয়নারায়ণ ঘোষাল শিক্ষার স্রোত নূতন পথে পরিবৰ্ত্তিত করিয়া দেন। রাজা জয়নারায়ণ কর্তৃক বারাণসীতে পাশ্চাত্য শিক্ষাপ্রণালীর প্রবর্তন 1% (3 ster 23, stric stats. History of English Education in India (p. 26) নামক প্রসিদ্ধ গ্রন্থে লিখিয়াছেন :- "Nor was Calcutta the only place where the Hindus evinced their desire to advance English Education among their countrymen. When the Governor-General visited the Upper Provinces in l8l4, Joynarayan Ghossal, an inhabitant of Benares, presented a petition to his Lordship, with proposal for establishing a school in the neighbourhood of that city, and requesting that Government would receive in deposit the sum of Rs. 20,000 the legal interest of which together with the revenue arising from certain lands, he wished to be appropriated to the expense of the linstitution. The design meeting with the approbation of Government, Joynarayan Ghossal was acquainted therewith. Accordingly, in July 1818, he founded his school, appointing to the management thereof, the Rev. D. Corrie,* corresponding member of their Committee and at the same time constituting the members of that Committee trustees.
