According to Mrs. Gandhi, no other country in the world had ever had to face an influx of that magnitude; no other country, in fact had ever been called upon to face even one-tenth of the situation. But, said Mrs. Gandhi, India would, if necessary, "go through hell" to help the refugees. But clearly, this is not a situation that should concern India alone It calls for the assistance of the world at large. The most urgent need is food, shelter and medicine. And the people of Guyana can contribute to this need by raising funds. It must never be said that in a crisis like this facing their kindred people of India. Guyanese were found lacking in sympathy. Guyana is itself a poor country but the situation facing India is one which calls for sacrifice and the people of Guyana know how to make sacrifices.
