 অতি প্রাচীন যুগ হইতে ভারতবর্ষীয় চিত্রপদ্ধতি গড়িয়া উঠিয়াছে। যেমন অন্যদেশে জ্ঞানের বৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চিত্রপদ্ধতিরও বিকাশ দেখা যায়, ভারতবর্ষ সম্বন্ধেও সেই একই কথা
