ë:30 भैद्र दकानिभ না । * ইংরাজ কৰ্ম্মচারিগণ এইরূপে অর্থ শোষণ করিয়া তাহা শতকরা আট টাকা সুদে কোম্পানীকে ঋণ দান করায়, মীর জাফরের স্কন্ধে কোম্পানীর ঋণভার ক্রমেই ঘনীভূত হইতে লাগিল। হতভাগ্য মীর জাফর ! যখন তাহার এইরূপ শোচনীয় অবস্থা, তখন কোম্পানীর কৰ্ম্ম চারিগণ র্তাহাকে কোম্পানীর প্রাপ্য অর্থের জন্য উৎপীড়ন করিতে আরম্ভ করিলেন!। স্ক্রাফটন লিখিয়া গিয়াছেন- এই সময়ে ইংরাজ-কৰ্ম্মচারিগণ মীর জাফরকে “কামধেনু” করিয়া তুলিয়াছিলেন ৷ + এইরূপে কলিকাতায় বিড়ম্বিত হইয়া, গলিত কুষ্টরোগগ্ৰস্ত হতভাগ্য মীর জাফর মুরশিদাবাদে আসিয়া, ১৭৬৫ খৃষ্টাব্দের ৫ই ফেব্রুয়ারী মানবলীলা সংবরণ করিলেন । মৃত্যুকালে পাপক্ষালনের জন্য মহারাজা নন্দকুমার শ্ৰীশ্ৰীকিৰীটীশ্বরী দেবীর চরণামৃত আনাইয়া মীর জাফরের কণ্ঠশোষ নিবারণের চেষ্টা করিয়াছিলেন । মীর জাফর যে উপায়ে বঙ্গ-বিহার-উড়িষ্যার মসনদে আরোহণ করিয়াছিলেন, তাহা এদেশের ইতিহাসে পুনঃ পুনঃ ধিক্কৃত হইয়াছে। তিনি যে উদ্দেশ্যে আত্মবিক্রয় করিয়াছিলেন, তাহাও ইতিহাসে প্ৰশংসালাভ করিতে পারে নাই । একজন ইংরাজ-লেখক স্পষ্ট লিখিয়া গিয়াছেন- “এদেশের লোকে যদি কখনও বিদেশীয় শাসনে মৰ্ম্মপীড়িত тога за оне за-вић SqqSLLSLLMLSSLSLSLS SLSLSLS S SLSLSSL rLLSLL LSLSSAS SSLLLLLL0 --- was --- serper aqueuseseopphugsusega
