অর্থাৎ “সাঁওতালি মুণ্ডারি, ভূমিজ, বীরহর, কোডা প্রভৃতি ভাষা একই মূল ভাষার সামান্য রূপান্তর মাত্র। সাঁওতালি প্রবাদ অনুসারে উপরোক্ত জাতি সকল একমাত্র মূলবংশ হইতে উদ্ভূত। ঐ মূলবংশ খাড়ওয়ার বা খেড়ওয়ার বংশ নামে পূর্ব্বে অভিহিত হইত।”
মানভূম জেলার অন্তর্গত বরাহভূম পরগণার ঘাটোয়ালি সেটলমেণ্ট পরিমাপ কার্য্য ইংরাজী ১৮৮২-৮৩ সালে সম্পন্ন হইয়াছিল। অশেষ ভাষাবিৎ পণ্ডিত মিঃ রিজলি সরকার বাহাদুরের নিয়োগ অনুসারে উক্ত সেটেলমেণ্ট পরিমাপ কার্য্যের তত্ত্বাবধারক বা সুপারিণ্টেণ্ডেণ্ট নিযুক্ত হইয়াছিলেন। সেটেলমেণ্ট পরিমাণ সমাপ্ত হইলে চিরন্তন সরকারী প্রথানুসারে রিজলি সাহেব বাহাদুর যে মন্তব্য বা রিপোর্ট লিপিবদ্ধ করিয়াছিলেন, তাহার একাংশে লিখিত আছে,— “There can I think, be no question that the aboriginal tribe called Bhumij or Bhumij Kols were first Settlers in Barrabhum.Local tradition says that they cleared the soil, their name implies the truth of the tradition and the fact that they hold servicetenures and are the priests of the forestgods are almost conclusive evidence on the point.
