কর্ণেল ডাল্টন সাহেবের মতেও ভূমিজজাতি বরাহভূমের আদিম অধিবাসী। কাঁসাই ও সুবর্ণরেখা নদীদ্বয়ের মধ্যভাগ ভূমিজগণের বাসস্থান। সাহেব বলেন, “The Bhumij are no doubt, the original inhabitants of Dhalbhum, Barabhum, Patkum and Baghmundi, and still form the bulk of the population in those and adjoining estates. They may be described roughly as being chiefly located in the country between the Kasai and Subarnarekha rivers.

কর্ণেল ডাল্টন্ অন্যত্র লিখিয়াছেন যে, এই ‘ভূমিজগণ’ সম্ভবতঃ জৈনগণ কর্ত্তৃক ‘বজ্রভূমি’ নামে অভিহিত হইয়াছে। জৈনগণের চতুর্ব্বিংশ জিন বা তীর্থঙ্কর মহাত্মা বীর এই ভূমিজগণ কর্ত্তৃক আক্রান্ত হইয়াছিলেন। মানভূম জেলার অন্তর্গত পরেশনাথ পর্ব্বতে মহাত্মা বীরের আশ্রম ছিল। একদা এই ভূমিজগণ মহাত্মা বীর ও তাঁহার অনুচরগণের উপর তীর চালনা করিয়া এবং অন্যান্য প্রকার উপদ্রব করিয়া তাঁহাদিগকে বিব্রত করিয়াছিল।[১]
