in the same house as the prisoner, where other women of similar character, also lived, in Panchoo Dhobani's gully. On the evening of the 9th August, the prisoner asked the deceased procure for her certain food— parched rice and gur and that she would pay her later. The prisoner was expecting the man in whose keeping she was, and she intended paying for the articles when he come. He came and left, and after midnight prisoner paid the deceased. They, that is, the prisoner, the deceased, and a woman named Preeo Raur, then procured other food; and when the prisoner and Preeo Raur ate from one cop, the deceased ate from another. After eating the food, the deceased complained of being unwell, and went downstairs to her own room, the other two women going with her. And here the story ended. It was not until they came to a later stage at night, that one of the women seeing the prisoner, coming out of the room of the deceased, questioned her, and the prisoner replied, that she had gone there to get some food which Rajcoomaree had purchased for her. The evidence would show that she was the last person seen coming out of the room of the deceased. Matters stood thus till the following morning, when one of the women, seeing the door of Rajcoomaree's room open, called out to her, and receiving no answer, looked in and found her lying dead on the floor. The police were then called in, and the post mortem examination, held on the body of the deceased, resulted in the medical officer giving it as his opinion that the deceased had died from strangulation.
