৯০ শ্ৰীহটের ইতিবৃত্ত। {২য় ভা: ২য় খ: টাকার অধিক ছিল না।—আট মণে এক কাঠা হয়। তখন স্কৃতের সের চারি আনা ছয় আনা বিকাইত। মজুরের বেতনও অধিক ছিল না, বার্ষিক এক টাকা কি বার আনা হইলে বলবান কৰ্ম্মক্ষম চাকর পাওয়া যাইত, ইহা নবাবি আমলের শেষ সময়ের কথা । ঐ সময়ের প্রথমে ও মধ্যভাগে দেশের অবস্থা আরও ভাল ছিল। খোজা— ৯ এই সময়কার শ্রীহট্টের একটি প্রথা বিশেষ উল্লেখযোগ্য। আইন-ই -আকবরি গ্রন্থোক্ত দ্বাদশ সুবার ইতিহাস প্রকরণে লিখিত হইয়াছে যে, ‘শ্রীহটে অনেক খোজা ও ক্রীত দাসদাসী পাওয়া যায়। কৃত্রিম উপায়ে মোসলমান বালকদের পুরুষত্ব নষ্ট করা হইত, বলে বালকদিগকে ধরিয়া খোজা করিত।* এই খোজাগণ দিল্লী প্রভৃতি স্থানে প্রেরিত হইত। ইহারা
- এই নৃশংস প্রথা গৌরবাত্মক নহে। কিন্তু গেইট সাহেব তদীয় আসামের ইতিহাসে শ্রীহট্টের প্রসিদ্ধ প্রসঙ্গে কেবল এইটিই মাত্র উল্লেখ করিয়াছেন । তদুত্তরে
