৩য় অধ্যায়।1 বিবিধ । @> শ্ৰীহট্ট আসাম ভূক্ত হওয়ার পর কালেক্টর ও মাজিষ্ট্রেট পদের স্থলে ডিপুটী কমিশনারের পদ স্বই হয়। * ১৮৭৪ খৃষ্টাব্দের অক্টোবর মাসে ক্লে (A, L Clay ) সাহেব প্রথম ডিপুটীকমিশনার রূপে শ্ৰীহট্টে আগমন করেন। তৎপরে ১৮৭৭ খৃষ্টাব্দে এক মাসের জন্য মেনসন (A . Manson) সাহেব এবং তাহার পরে খ্যাতনামী লটমান জনসন ( Henry lattmon johnson) সাহেব শ্ৰীহটে আগমন করেন। ইনি ১৮৮৫ খৃষ্টাৰ পৰ্য্যস্ত শ্ৰীহটে অবস্থিতি করেন। the Government of India and the impression of the memorialists seems to be that this law will effect some material change in the system under which they have been hitherto administered. 2. In reply I am to explain for the information of memorialists that this law has only given formal completion to a decision which has been passed after long and eareful consideration. It was recomended by the late Lieunt : Governor Sir George Campbell and it has been sanctioned by the secretary of state after due regard to all the considerations set forth in the memorial under acknowledgement. But neither the transfer of the district nor the passing of an act which formally withdraws the district from jurisdiction of certain authoritics in Bengal will make any substantial change in the mode of administering Sylhet. There will Certainly be no ehange whatever in the system of law and judical procedure under which inhabitants of Sylhet have hitherto lived, nor in the principles which apply throughout Bengal to the settlement and collection of land revenue 8. His Excellency the Governor General in Council regrets therefore that he can not acede to the prayer of memorialists, ands I am to request that his honour the Lieutt : Governor may be pleased to cause this reply to be communicated to them.”
