[ 54 1 French vessel, of twice the size of the English vessel, bore down upon her, and having taken the prize, put some of her men into her, and both the French vessels then attacked the English ship ; on this a most desperate engagement ensued, which lasted an hour and a half. In it the French captain, his lieutemantand two-thirdsofthe crew werekilled,and on the side of the English, the Captain, almost all his officers and nearly the whole of the crew lost their lives.
