The poetical compositions appeared in the Probakur Newspaper. The prize of twenty rupees was awarded by Baboos Romonymohun Boy and Kally Churn Roy Chowdhury Zemindars of Rungpore and was sent through Baboo Isser Ohunder Goopto the Editor of the abovementioned Journal. Kerr Principal এখানে উল্লেখ করা প্রয়োজন, হুগলী কলেজে পড়িতে পড়িতেই ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র গুপ্তের রচনার আদর্শে বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র ‘সংবাদ প্রভাকরে গদ্য পন্থ রচনা স্বরু করেন। দুই বৎসর ধরিয়া বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের অনেক গপ্ত পষ্ঠ রচনা ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র গুপ্তের প্রশস্তি সমেত ‘সংবাদ প্রভাকরে প্রকাশিত হইতে থাকে। জুনিয়র স্কলারশিপ পরীক্ষায় মাসিক ৮ বৃত্তি পাইয়া বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র এইবার কলেজ-বিভাগের চতুর্থ শ্রেণী অর্থাৎ ফাস্ট ইয়ারে উন্নীত হন। কলেজে প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণীর পাঠ্য একই, কিন্তু তৃতীয় ও চতুর্থ শ্রেণীর পাঠ্যতালিক পৃথক পৃথক ছিল। চতুর্থ শ্রেণীর পাঠ্য? — English: Addison, (pp. 1-382) as far as No. 265.
