The Soodhвеќомжооdве as quoted by the Compiler says, Let the Inother enter the fire after the son has kindled it around his father's corpse; but to the father's corpse and the mother let him not set fire ; if the son set fire to the living mother, he has on him the guilt of murdering both a woman, and a mother. Thus the possibility of a woman's being bound to her husband's corpse is taken away : while the act, is left perfectly optional, the son is not to be in the least degree accessary to the mother's death ; if sho burn herself at all, it Inust be throwing herself into the flames already kindled. And the Nirnuya-sindhoo forbids the use of any bandage, bamboos, or wood by way of confining the woman on the funeral pile ; nor before she enter it must the least persuasion be used, nor must she be placed on the firo , by others.
