দূর হইল না। তিনি ফরাসিদিগকে ভাগলপুরে অপেক্ষা করিতে বলিয়া ভাগীরথীমুখে শালতরু প্রোথিত করিয়া, পঞ্চদশ সহস্র সেনাসমভিব্যাহারে মীরজাফরকে পলাশিমাত্রার আদেশ করিলেন। তাঁহাকে পলাশিতে অবস্থান করিতে হইলে গুপ্তমন্ত্রণার ব্যাঘাত হইবে বলিয়া ইংরাজ বাঙ্গালী সকলেই চিন্তাকুল হইয়া উঠিলেন। কিন্তু সিরাজদ্দৌলার সন্দেহ দূর করিবার জন্য মীরজাফরকে সহাস্যমুখে পলাশিযাত্রা করিতে হইল!
মহারাষ্ট্র-সেনাপতি বহুদিন চৌথ না পাইয়া লুণ্ঠন-লোলুপ সতৃষ্ণনয়নে ইংরাজগবর্ণর ড্রেক সাহেবের নিকট পত্র লিখিয়া গোবিন্দরাম নামক দূত প্রেরণ করিয়াছিলেন।[১] সেই মহারাষ্ট্রদূত কলিকাতায় উপনীত হইলে কর্ণেল ক্লাইব বিষম বিপদে পতিত হইলেন।[২] গোবিন্দরাম কাহার চর? তাহা স্থির করিতে না পারিয়া তাঁহার পত্রখানি সিরাজদ্দৌলার নিকট পাঠাইয়া দেওয়াই স্থির হইল। ইহাতে ইংরাজের সরলতার অকাট্য প্রমাণ
