have the honour to state that the District Magistrate of Mymensingh on the strength of D. S. P’s report, called upon me for an explanation of my conduct on the 1st December 1905. The Magistrate after receiving my explanation reported against my school to the Commissioner of the Dacca Division, laying a fresh charge upon the school, namely “the conduct of my boys in the Barabazar.” As a copy of my explanation No. 17, dated the 2nd December 1905 has been forwarded to you by the Magistrate, it is needless to repeat my arguments again. With regard to the latter charge, I humbly beg to submit that the statement that the Edward School boys were conspicuous in the Barabazar riot and in the previous picketing is without any basis. It is a patent fact that my boys were not implicated in the riot; only one boy of my school was arrested by the Police on the day of occurrence, not because he took part in the riot but because he simply happened to be there. He had a stall in the bazar and he used to sell country made guernsey frocks in the evening. Eye witnesses say that he was dragged by the Police from the Verandah of a building where he was standing. Whatever that may be, it can hardly be expected that a Head master should keep every boy
