EvKNTS OF HIS IFE. 1፳፩ ፳ IX. A text-book on History or Geography should in its preface briefly but clearly indicato tho sources from which thc information contained in it is derived. X. Books which ebsriss (d erhey she stvident d'ith help, and think out everything for him instead of leaving him time to think for himself, such as cortain classes of Keys and books on (omposition, should never be selected as text-books, XI. Books containing passages whicl have an immoral tendency or are hostile to any religion or to established Government should not be approved as text-books. XII. Every new text-book on any subject should have in it something really ment and useful cither in point of nate or in point of form, to justify its (existence; and this should be briefly but clearly indicated in its preface, The propriety of this rule may not be altogether free from doubt. It may be said that so long as a book does not infringe the law relating to copyright, the more fact that it contains nothing more in point of matter or form than what is to be found in another book, ought not to be any objection to its oxistence; they may both be derived from one common source the contents of both may be matter of common knowledge; and there is no reason why one book should monopolize potronag( to the exclusion of all others, merely because it was written first.
