It is very pleasing to note that His Honour touched thc very keynotes, that will find a responsc in every heart, in reviewing tho life and carcer of this great and good man. His career as a Judge may bc forgotten, but his life and character will always have an abiding interest to all, be he a lawyer or no lawyer. We feel, therefore, no hesitation in publishing below the full text of the Lieutenant-Governor's speech. Lieutenant-tea OVeron Ora's Speech. Sir Francis Maclean and gentlemen:- We meet together in what may be described in the Indian language as a demi-official meeting. There is undoubtedly something of the official element in it; for I am called upon by the Government of India in my official capacity to discharge one of the most pleasant duties which can fall to the Lieutenant-Governor of this province. At the same time this assembly, distinguished and representative as it is ought rather to be regarded as an assembly of friends than as an official assembly. I asked Sir Gooroodass Banerjee what gentlemen he would like to have present on this occasion, and he mentioned the Hon. the Chief Justice and the Judges of the High Court and a number of other gentlemen whom he regarded as personal friends.
