চতুর্থ পরিচ্ছেদ। &e করিয়াছিলেন : কিন্তু ক্ষোভের বিষয় এই যে, যে মহাত্মা স্বদেশের হিতসাধনার্থ তাহার সর্বস্ব ব্যয় করিয়াছিলেন, এবং স্বদেশের কাজের জন্যই যাহার পরিবারবর্গ গৃহহারা হইতেছিলেন, কয়েক জন অকৃতজ্ঞ দেশবাসী তাহার পরিবারবর্গকে এই দুঃসময়ে কিছুমাত্র সাহায্য প্রদান করা উচিত বোধ করেন নাই। পক্ষান্তরে, যে ব্রিটিশ ইণ্ডিয়ান সভা হরিশ্চন্দ্রের প্রতিভার প্রতিফলিত জ্যোতিঃতে উজ্জ্বল মূৰ্ত্তি ধারণ করিয়াছিল, সেই সভারই কয়েক জন বিশিষ্ট সভ্য ও সহকারী সম্পাদক কৃষ্ণদাস পাল দেশবাসীকে এই সাহায্য-প্রদানে বিরত করিতে চেষ্টা পাইয়াছিলেন ! কিঞ্চিদধিক ছয় শত টাকার জন্য হরিশ্চন্দ্রের ন্যায় স্বদেশ-বৎসল মহাপুরুষের গুহ দেশের কাজের জন্ত বিক্রয় বাঙ্গালীর চিরকলঙ্ক স্বরূপ হইয়া থাকিত। সুখের বিষয়, তখনও বঙ্গসমাজে কালীপ্রসন্নের দ্যায় কয়েক জন স্বদেশভক্ত
