আমি যে প্রবন্ধ দিয়েছি তাহাতে আমার attitude indirect ভাবে প্রকাশ করেছি—I have described it as supreme and sublime indifference, আমি এটা বেশ বুঝিতেছি দিন দিন যে আমার জীবনের একটা definite mission আছে তারই জন্য আমার শরীর ধারণ and I am not to drift in the current of popular opinion. লোকে ভালমন্দ বলিবে জগতের এটা রীতি but my sublime self-consciousness consists in this that I am not influenced by them. যদি জগতের ব্যবহারে আমার attitude পরিবর্ত্তন অর্থাৎ দুঃখ নৈরাশ্য প্রভৃতি আনে, তাহা হইলে বুঝিব যে আমার দুর্ব্বলতা কিন্তু যে রকম আকাশের দিকে যার লক্ষ্য সম্মুখে পর্ব্বত আসছে, কি কূপ আসছে তার যেমন জ্ঞান থাকে না—সেই রকম যার একমাত্র লক্ষ্য mission এর দিকে, আদর্শের দিকে—তার এসব দিকে মোটেই ভ্রূক্ষেপ নাই। I must move about with the proud self-consciousness of one imbued with an idea.
যাক আমি এখন বুঝিতেছি যে মানুষ হইতে গেলে তিনটি জিনিষ চাই—
(1) Embodiment of the past
(2) Product of the present
(3) Prophet of the future.
(1) I must assimilate the past history in fact all the past civilisation of the world.
(2) I must study myself—study the world around me—both India and abroad and for this foreign travels are necessary.
(3) I must be the prophet of the future. I must discover the laws of progress—the tendency of both the civilisations and therefrom to settle the future goal and progress of mankind. The Philosophy of life will alone help me in this.
(4) This ideal must be realised through a nation—begin with India.
Is not this a grand idea?

The more we lift our eyes heavenwards the more we shall forget all that was bitter in the Past. The future will dawn upon us in all its glory.
