[ 50 | VIII In the Chhandogya Upanishad it is said:— चत्रमयं हि मन:, प्रापीमय: प्राण: । अत्राप: पेीताख्न धा विधीयन्ते, तामां यः खविठी धातुस्तक,वं भवति, यो मध्यम स्तज्जीक्ड़्तिं भवति, योऽणिष्ठ: स प्राणी भवति । छान्दोग्य-६ष्ठ । “The mind comes [rom food and lise from water. Mind and Lise—these are cherished and upheld respectively by food and drink." And so Svetaketu is told by his father : "when water is drunk, it developes three kinds of virtue or strength ; the crudes (or ihickesi) porlion Constiduos urineo, lhe medium constituies blood, while the subtlost chorishes life. You may eal nothing for fifteen days. buł you must drink water, for weler is life." And so sor fifteen days Svetaketu ale nothing and drank only woler sor the preservation of life. His father ihen carne and asked him some qucstions on the Vedas and olher Shastras. Swetaketu replied that he remombered nothing. Then, as his father's order, he look food. his body became sirengthened thereby, and he was then able lo give proper answers lo his father's questions. The Gita says: “He is the revealer of the brightness of the Sun elc." It is said in the SwetashwataraUpanishad, "with His brightness all shings become bright." li has been already said that life is sun.
