1 ৩২। দার্জিলিংএর পার্বত্যজাতি। গ্রীস্ দেশীয় সুপ্রসিদ্ধ ঐতিহাসিক “প্লিনি” কিরাতগণকে অদ্ভুত আকার বিশিষ্ট বলিয়া বর্ণনা করিয়াছেন, যথা—
- “They have merely holes in their heads instead of nostrils, ind flexible feet; like the body of a serpent.”
| ময়ুৰ্যরাজসভাধিষ্ঠিত গ্রীসীয় রাজদূত মেগাস্থিনিস্ তৎ প্রণীত ভারতের বিবরণ নামক পুস্তকে কিরাত জাতির সম্বন্ধে লিখিয়াছেন যে “There are men of five and even three spans in lieight, skime (of whom are without nostrils, with only two breathing orifices above the month.” | প্লিনি বা মেগাস্থিনিস্ এতদুভয়ের কেহই শ্রম স্বীকার পূৰ্ব্বক কিরাতগণের স্বরূপ নির্ণয়ে প্রয়াসী হন্ নাই এবং নিতান্ত দায়িত্ব জ্ঞানহীনের ন্যায় জনশ্রুতির সত্যাসত্য নিরূপণ না করিয়া পূর্বোক্তরূপ লিপিবদ্ধ করিয়া গিয়াছেন। বৈদেশিক লেখকগণের মধ্যে একমাত্র Lassen কর্তৃক লিখিত বিবরণই “They were allied to the Tibetans and inhabited much of Bengal at the time of the Aryan migration.
