বে। রাজার মৃত ভ্রাতার নাম স্মর্ডিস অতএব মাগি নামে বিখ্যাত মিডিয়াদেশীয় পুরোহিতেরা স্মর্ভিসের নাম সামান্য এক ব্যক্তিকে আরােপ করিয়া তাঁহাকে রাজা করিলেন এবং তাঁহাকে তাড়না করিতে কাশ্বৈশিস্ দৈবায়ত্ত হত হইলেন। তাঁহার রাজ্যকাল সাড়ে সাত বৎসর। ঐ ভাক্ত স্মর্ডিসের আট মাস মাত্র সিংহাসনাধিকার হইলে পারসীয় মহাকুলীনেরদের মধ্যে সাত জন মিডিয়া দেশস্থ রাজাকে সহিষ্ণুতা করিতে না পারিয়া ষড়যন্ত্র করণপূর্ব্বক তাঁহাকে হত করেন। এতৎ সময়েই মিডিয়াদেশীয়েরদের যে শিল্প ও সভ্যতা ছিল তাহা ভ্রমণশীল পারসীয়েরদের মধ্যে প্রবিষ্ট হয় এবং তদবধি তাঁহারা ঘর বাটী করিয়া বসতি করণপূর্ব্বক নগর পত্তন করিতে লাগিলেন। ঐ নগর অল্পকালের মধ্যেই পৃথিবীর মধ্যে সর্ব্বাপেক্ষা সমৃদ্ধ নগরের তুল্য হইল।
