ক্রিয়া হইতে পারিল না এবং রোগের স্পর্শাক্রামকতা ভয়ে কেহই রুগ্ন ব্যক্তিরদের কিছু উপকার করিল না হিমিল্কোর সৈন্যেরদের এতদ্রূপ দুরবস্থা ঘটিয়াছে দেখিয়া ডায়ােনিসিয়স তাঁহারদের উপরে পড়িলেন ও তাবৎ সিরাক্যুসনিবাসিরা তাঁহারদের আত্মশাঘি শত্রুর বিনাশ দর্শনার্থ বাহিরে আগত হইলেন। হিমিল্কো সিরাক্যুসীয়েরদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করিতে অপারক হইয়া স্বদেশে প্রত্যাগমন করিতে অনুমতি প্রার্থনা করিলেন। তাহাতে কেবল কার্থাজীয়েরদিগকে সঙ্গে লইয়া যাইতে অনুমতিহইল অতএব তাঁহার সঙ্গে আফ্রিকার অন্যান্য দেশীয় যে সহযে৷দ্ধারা ছিলেন তাঁহারদিগকে সিরক্যুসীয়েরদের মুখে ফেলিয়া দিয়া রাত্রি যোগে হিমিল্কো পলায়ন করিলেন এবং সিরাক্যুসীয়েরা ঐ সৈন্যেরদিগকে তৎক্ষণাৎ হত করিলেন। হিমিল্কো কার্থাজ নগরে পঁহুছিলে তাঁহাকর্ত্তৃক স্বীয় দেশের যে অপমান হইয়াছে তাহা সহিষ্ণুতা করিতে না পারিয়া স্বগৃহে আপনি বন্ধ হইয়া আত্মঘাতী হইলেন।

While the army of Himilco was suffering from this dreadful calamity, Dionysius fell upon it, and all Syracuse poured forth to witness the destruction of its haughty foe. Himilco unable to meet the Syracusans, solicited permission to retire. He was allowed to depart, but only with his native Carthaginians. He accordingly stole away during the night, abandoning his African auxiliaries to the fury of the Syracusans, by whom they were barbarously murdered. Himilco returned to Carthage, and unable to sustain the disgrace he had brought on his country, shut himself up in his house and fell by his own hand.
