করিয়া নগরস্থেরদিগকে বিতরণ করিলেন ইহাতে তিনি সুতরাং জনসমূহের অতিপ্রিয় পাত্র হইলেন কিন্তু রাজসভ্যেরদের তত্তুল্য ঘৃণ্য পাত্র হইলেন। এবং তিনি রাজপদের আকাঙ্ক্ষী এমত মিথ্যা এক অভিযােগ তাঁহারা করিয়া দেশের অত্যন্ত বিভ্রাট অবস্থাতে যেমন হয় তেমনি করিলেন অর্থাৎ এক জন সম্পূর্ণ ক্ষমতপন্ন ডিক্টেটর নিযুক্ত করিলেন। ঐ অভাগা স্পুরিয়স ডিকটেটরের হস্ত হইতে রক্ষা প্রাপ্তিবিষয়ে ভগ্নাশ হইয়া আদালতে তাঁহার তলব হইলে লোকেরদের নিকটে আশ্রয় লইলেন। তাহাতে ডিক্টেটরের নায়েব আহালা ধাবমান হইয়া এক প্রহারেই তাঁহাকে কাটিয়া ফেলিলেন। তাহাতে ডিক টেটর অতিপ্রাচীন সিন্সিনেটস যদ্যপি তৎকালীন সর্ব্বাপেক্ষা ভদ্র ও দয়ালু ব্যক্তি ছিলেন তথাপি দলাদলির রাগেতে অন্ধ হইয়া আহালাকে কহিলেন যে “বিলক্ষণ করিয়াছ বেটা রাজ্য রক্ষা করিলা”।
