\უ28 বৃহৎ বঙ্গ “When one thousand seven hundred years had elapsed since this King (Vijoy), protected by the Gods in accordance with the behest of the Buddha, arrived in the island of Lanka, and destroying the yakşa8 made in an abode for mankind, there was born the great king Siri Safgaba Kalinga Parakrama Bahu Wiraraj Nissanka Malla Aprati Mala in Simhapur in the country of Kalinga in role Jambudiva, the birthplace of the Buddhas, Bodhisattas and Universal monarchs, (he was born) of the womb of the great queen Parvati unto King Joygopa who was like unto a tilak ornament to this royal line (of the Okkaka dynasty). He grew up in the midst of royal splendour and being invited by the great king of the h-land Ilanka, his senior kinsman, to rule over the island of Lanka which was his by the right of lineal suecession of kings, he landed in great state in Lanka. Enjoying (thereafter) the royal dignities of governor and subking and being proficient in all arts of sciences, he in due order of regal succession received the sacred unction and wearing the crown assumed supreme sovereignty.--“ Epigraphica Zeylanica,” Vol. II. এই লিপির সারমন্ম এই সে রাজা নিঃশঙ্ক মল্ল সিংহপুরের বিজয়ের বংশোদ্ভব। এই স্থানের রাজারা “কলিঙ্গেশ্বর” উপাধি ধারণ করিতেন এলাখ ইহা কলিঙ্গের অন্তৰ্গত ছিল। ইনি বিজয়ের সিংহলে পৌঁছবার ১০ ০০ বৎসর পরে সিংহপুরে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। সেই বংশোদুব কোন সিংহলরাজ তাহার কোন উত্তরাধিকারী না পাইয়া তাহদের মূলস্থান সিংহপুরের এক জ্ঞাতিকে আনাইয়া রাজ্যটি তাহাকে প্ৰদান করেন। উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে সিংহপুরের রাজবংশের দাবী সিংহলের সিংহাসনে অগ্রগণ্য ছিল। দক্ষিণ রাঢ় যে কলিঙ্গের অন্তর্গত ছিল, তাহা সৰ্ব্বসন্মত ; সিংহপুর অতি প্ৰাচীন ও প্ৰধান নগর এবং কলিঙ্গভূক্ত ছিল, তাহাতে কোন বিধা নাই। এমন অবস্থায় এই লিপির প্ৰমাণ অকাট্য | 1 এখন বাঙ্গলা ভাষার সঙ্গে সিংহলী ভাষার যে নিকট-সম্বন্ধ তাহা আমরা সংক্ষেপে আলোচনা করিব। এ সম্বন্ধে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক ডঃ মহম্মদ সহিদুল্লা সাহেব এম এ, ডি. লিট, আমাদিগকে লিখিয়া artificer, “I have tried to show in an article that the Singhalese language has the greatest affinity with the language of the Eastern inscriptions of Asoka and must have been derived from the ancient language of Rada.
