VYAVASTHA-DARPANA 71.4 Consequently, - - 401 The female descendants within the seventh degree (inclusive) from the father, paternal grandfather, and the rest, and the female descendants as far as the fith degree (inclusive) from the maternal grandfather and the rest, and the female descendants within the seventh degree (inclusive) from the father's friends (bandhus) and his six ancestors through whom those females are related", as also the female descendants as far as the fifth degree (inclusive) from the mother's friends, and their four ancestors through whom they are related, are not to be taken in marriage"—Udedha-tattua. The bridegroom and bride must be counted by the wise from that common ancestor (inclusive,) whose descendants separated in branches. (i.e. from whom branches of the family have issued. }–A text cited in the tsdráða-tat'let. In counting from a (father's or mother's) friend, those male ancestors (only) mnst be enumeratol whose descendants separated in branches; and not the female ancestors such as the maternal grandmother, paternal grandmother, and the rest, except the mother's aunts and father's aunts, as already mentioned; for, in the text of Notrudit: ‘Girls descended from the father's and mother's friends are not to be taken in marriage as far as the seventh and fifth degrees resortively—the adjectives (seventh and fifth) are used in the masculine gender*—Udićha-lattwu. Such is also the doctrine of the Piráha-tattirärnuru. - 104 A duttaka son must not marry a girl who is connected as sapinda to his adoptive or natural father, or who is of the same gotra with either of them. The sons of a person's father's paternal aunt (father's sister,) the sons of his or her father's maternal aunt (mother's sister, ) and the song of his or her father's waternal uncle (mother's brother, ) are his or her father's bandhus.--From each of these bandhus (inclusive) are enumerated seves degrees in ascent from whom relationship is derived, thus :-}. The son of a person's father's paternal aunt, 2, that son's mother, 3. maternal grandtather, -1, maternal great-grandfather, -5, maternal great greatgrandfather,-6. the latter's father, and -7. paternal grandfather. In like င္ရနုိင္ငံန္ဟုန္ the son of a person's father's maternal aunt, 2, that son's mother,”-3, maternal grossfather—4. maternal great-grandfather, 5. imaternal great great-grandfather, 6, the latter's father, and—7. paternal grandfather.—1. The female descendants, as far as the seventh degree of and from each of the above enumerated persons, are not to be taken in marriage. The sons of a person's mother's paternal aunt, the sons of his or her mother's matcrpal aunt, and the sons of his or her mother's maternal uncle are his or her mother's buildhw. Froin each of these bandhus (inclusive) five ascendant degrees, from whom relationship is derived, are enumerated as follows:--I. The mother's paternal aunt's son, 2., his mother (i.e. the mother's paternal aunt, ) –3, his matériul grandfather—#. Imaternal great-grandfather, and—5, the maternal great great-grand. father, In like manner, l, the mother's maternal aunt's son, 2, his nother (i.e. the mother's material aunt,)—3, his maternal grandfather-1, maternal great-grandfather, and—5. maternal great t-grandfather—1. The mother's maternal uncle's son-2. that son's father, 3. paternal grandather-4. patornal great-grandfather, and—5. paternal great great-grandfather.
