Bigamy and polygamy appearalso to have been prohibited to men, anless for any of such causes as are mentioned in the following texts “A wife, who drinks any spirit uous liquors, who acts immorally, who shows hatred (to her lord, ) who is incurably diseased (p), who is mischievous, who wastes his property, may at all times be superseded by another wise—A barren wise may be superseded by another in the cighth year; she whose children are all dead, in the tenth; she, who brings (only) daughters, in the eleventh; she, who speaks unkindly, without delay. —But she, who, though afflicted with illness, is beloved and virtuous, must be never disgraced, though she may be superseded by another wife with her onn consent.'—Manu, eh.
