প্ৰহসন-রচনা | 9N (R dogs I am studying Law for the Sudder. Law and Poetry Do you remember the lines in Pope P "A clerk foredoomed his father's soul to cross, Who pens a stanza when he should engross" Well-I am that man, though I have no father. I am, besides, engaged in litigation with a score of people for my paternal property. But 'n'importe' as the French say, I have a brave heart and mean to fight my battles bravely. I would sooner reform the Poetry of my country than wear the imperial diadem of all the Russias. I do not know what European told you that I had a great contempt for Bengali, but that was a fact. But now-I even go the length of believing that our BlankVerse 'thrashes the Englishers' as an American would say ! But joking apart, is mot Blank-Verse in our language quite as grand as in any other f the Telegu country or the Tamil. Sir Emerson Tennent also speaks of the "Bengalee' conquerors of the Island. The poet may refer to his work as well as to Forbe's Ceylon. An epic poem like the one suggested above is much required to infuse patriotic zeal and a warlike spirit into the breasts of our degenerate countrymen. It is true that a hundred far more powerful agencies are required to bring about that mighty change, but the poet also must lend his aid to the good work My impression is that the above subject is very well adapted for epic poetry ; but if that impression be not correct I have no doubt that it is a highly poetical one and that an interesting poem, of some kind or other, can be written upon it, calculated to produce the good effects mentioned above. রাজনারায়ণ বাবুর পরামর্শ অনুসারে মধুসুদন “সিংহল-বিজয়-কাব্য” লিখিতে আরম্ভ করিয়াছিলেন। উপযুক্ত স্থলে পাঠক তাহার উল্লেখ দেখিতে পাইবেন ।
