( v ) position by notifying it under sections 18 and 19 of the Calcutta and Suburban Police (Amendment) Act 1910, as an institution to which a Magistrate may commit vagrants, instead of to jail. The LieutenantGovernor in Council acknowledges with pleasure the useful and humanitarian work performed by this institution, the Founder-Superintendent of which, Babu Ananda Mohan Biswas, received during the year the well deserved honour of a Kaisar-i-Hind medal. Its recognition by Government only awaits the carrying out of certain essential sanitary improvements. It is hoped that the funds for these may be readily forthcoming. The institution, which is supported by voluntary contributions, has recently been put on a firmer financial basis by the munificence of Babu Bihari Lal Mitra, who has given a donation of Rs. 25,000 towards the erection of new premises, and has promised two further instalments of the same amount. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council takes this opportunity of acknowledging with gratification this aut of public generosity.
