The dinner provided on the occasion comprises not merely of rice, -which is cooked in the immense quantities and stacked in the shape of white hjillocks several feet in height-but also of various vegetablę dishes, sweets, curds, etc. Indeed, the food provided on the occasion and doled out freely and impartially to all who come, -both to the rich and the poor, old and young, men, women and children is of the best; and it is certainly a grand sight to witness thousands at a time sitting down to partake of it, and the same routine being repeated again and again throughout the day. The cost of the "Annakut' is necessarily largerepresenting a figure which would be regarded as prohibitive by most men, The very fact that this is peculiar to Babu Vihari Tuna's family-who is a Kayastha and not a Brahman,-though in partaking of the food on this particular occasion no caste scruples are observed by any -shews what value is attached to it. We congratulate Babn Vihari Lala on the unique character of this festival and the popularity it has enjoyed through a century and more annong the Hindu comununity. We are sure, if pur European friends could have the opportunity of wit nessing the scene once they would be highly impressed and quite pleasantly too.
