SIRS, With reference to the two points of your letter dated the 5th January, 1895, I send the following as my opinion :- I. I approve of the proposal to make the vernacular languages the medium of instruction up to the Entrance Standard in History, Geography and Mathematics. 2. I approve of the proposal to make the study of the vernacular languages a part of the curriculum in the F. A. and B. A. Examinations in addition to Sanskrit, Arabic &c. GENTLEMEN, With reference to your Circular letter dated the 5th itstant anent the introduction of the vernacular languages into the curriculum of University Examinations, I beg to state that, I fully approve of the proposal to make the vernacular languages a part of the studies for the F. A. and B. A. Examinations, in addition to the second classical languages-Sanskrit, Arabic, and Persian, already prescribed for those Examinations. I am also of opinion that in such examinations not only vernacular text-books should be prescribed, but composition in the vernaculars, as also translation to them, should be made a part of the required test. This change, if adopted by the University, would be a great stimulus to the improve
